VENTANITA.FYI
VENTANITA.FYI is a special project by GTK.FYI co-founder Alex Valls in collaboration with Versailles Restaurant.
Valls pays homage to her roots and Cuban ‘cafecito’ tradition by recreating the famous ‘Ventanita’ at Versailles Restaurant at the Good To Know.FYI project space and mall in Downtown Miami. The "‘pop-up” window took place in January 2020 serving the same cortadito, cafecito and pastelists from Versailles bakery.
As part of the GTK.FYI umbrella, the collective puts a spin on the classic Cuban experience by presenting the artwork of Alex Valls: Archival food images from Felipe Sr’s menus of circa 1979 in Miami, FL and a golden framed work by Sara Mejia Kriendler’s Colombian series from the WE BUY GOLD 2019 exhibition.
VENTANITA.FYI also highlights the merchandize collaboration between Versailles Restaurant and Andrew Downtown for the Miami Art Week presentation originally hosted at the real Ventanita at Versailles on Calle Ocho.
Furthermore, as an ongoing exploration of the deep role Versailles and the culture of Cuban food has on the artist and curator, Alex Valls experiments with sculpture and installation made predominately from Versailles food. In Croqueta Crucifix she uses local fruits, hispanic snacks from Sedanos supermarket, croqueta and pastelists from Versailles restaurant and gift wrapping paper by artist Juan Obando titled A piece of the Amazon/ Tamal Navideño.
